DIY Flash Diffusion for your camera

The internet is full of information. Some is useful. Some is not.

I’m most intrigued when someone offers useful, frugal help, in a very expensive field.. like photography.

I have a stupidly expensive camera… that I absolutely love. I would not have bought it. It was a beautiful and much appreciated gift, though.

Now I need some accessories and the price tags, associated, make me feel like a cheap miser, again.

My on-board pop-up flash is absolutely useless, on my Canon S5 IS. Useless, as it is.

I never use it.

But, I love finding webpages, and blog posts, that give me new hope in using my flash, again.

JCIV, on Flickr, has over 1,000 shots with a Canon S5. I wanted this camera for two purposes, one being macro photography.

While I’m surfing, around, looking at wonderful shots, that I’d like to learn how to do…

I find a photo, with a reference to taking the shot, at night, with the CCRRFD “(fancy name for using styrofoam cups and bowls to emulate a ringflash for macro work).”

This takes “styrofoam” out of my hate index.  Thanks, George.

The CFFD (Coffee Filter Flash Diffuser):

I want to make both of these. The CCFD has the ease of portability and will sit, nicely, in my camera bag.

Now who needs 298 – 6 inch stryofoam bowls, 8 – 8 inch stryfoam bowls, and a ton of extra coffee filters?? Or better, yet, anyone have any of these things, to throw my way?

Does anyone have a clear film canister? I don’t think I have one of these, around here, anywhere, that I’m aware of.. but I could really use one.
