I made my Farina MOO.. Now you can, too, with free coupons!

IMG_3359Misery. Pure Misery.

My face/gums are swollen from the violent removal of a cracked tooth. It was not a violent act, itself..

the aftermath, however, is ugly.

I happened to have a box of Carnation Instant Breakfast. Girlie found it, in the cabinet, when I started asking if we had any smoothie protein packets.

I simply couldn’t work with the pain and come up with something to satisfy my “grumpy hungry” that I had on..

I really wanted oatmeal, but chewing is/was out of the question.

So.. Farina/Cream of Wheat came to mind.. something I didn’t really need to chew. I had some, in the cabinet, in a plastic storage bottle thingee.. but I couldn’t remember how to make it.

No problem.. I went to Google. I got lost, in blogs, and among recipes with Cream of Wheat in them.. and only got more grumpy/hungry..

I realized that no one would actually blog the simple recipe, found on the back of the box, anyway.. so I went to Twitter.

Then I started drinking down Carnation Instant Breakfast. I had girlie add 1/2 Fage Total and 1/2 milk to the 2nd one. I then had her add another powdered chocolate mix into it.. it was tolerable, but rich and strong tasting. It made for an instant smoothie, though. I’ll add yogurt, again, but not quite as much.

Roger came to my CofW rescue:

Thanks, Roger.

One of the blogs, that I ran across, in my quest to eat.. mentioned that they didn’t like Cream of Wheat until they made it with milk, instead of water.

That was interesting, to me, because I had never made it with milk. But, I had the best Farina, on a hospital menu, many years ago, at the Naval Hospital, San Diego. It was so good.

So, I wondered if they had made theirs with milk or had added powdered milk to the water.. etc.

So, I made both, this morning, to taste test them. The photo, above, shows both. The left is made with milk and the right with water.

Hands down.. I won’t make it with water again. Its THAT good.

Here’s what I did:

In small sauce pan, I put 1.25 (1-1/4) cups cold milk and a pinch of sea salt. I sprinkled 3 Tablespoons of Cream of Wheat across the top.

On medium heat, I stirred it for a few minutes, until it thickened.

That’s it! Its so easy. I don’t know why I ever bought instant hot cereal. Oh what I didn’t know.

Oh, btw, I used Stonyfield Whole Milk, because that is what I had. You can print coupons, from the Stonyfield site, for milk, yogurt, smoothie, Yo Kids, O’Soy, and Oikos from the Stonyfield website, here.

I flavored my cereal with a little butter and brown sugar. YUM!

I did get a wheat/gluten headache. I think. I took a Taurine, in case it was Glutamate, and it helped. I would not make this a regular routine, for me. But, its working for the non-chew moment.
