Free Basil

Something happens, in my garden, in late summer, when I disappear and start indoor hibernation, to air conditioning.

The weeds run amuck.

weeds

Its quite embarrassing. My basil usually grows into overgrown useless masses. Between the heat, humidity, my sinus issues, and the afternoon rain, I rarely go out there to get fresh herbs.

Who wants to cook with soggy herbs?

So, about the time that school starts, I manage to get help taming the forest back..

Something interesting has been happening, out back, in the name of Basil, though.

new basil 2

Those aren’t weeds.

This bin is on the far right side of the herb table. That is sweet basil and Thai basil, in front of that forest of Rosemary!

So, I start to investigate..

thai basil

All of my pots, that grew peppers, last year, were abandoned, this year, on the back of the herb table.

Last year, where this Rosemary is planted, in the far right pot, was where I experimented growing Thai Basil.

I really didn’t know how to use the Thai Basil, and I, eventually, let it all go to flower and gave up.

Apparently, it seeded, itself, in these pots, that have been very neglected, all summer.

And.. to my surprise, have re-seeded, themselves, into the front of the far right bin!

basil replanted duo

I replanted it into neighboring bins.

The Sweet Basil was reseeded from Basil, that was planted in that bin, that we removed, in July.

I picked up two hydro grown basil plants, at Whole Foods, yesterday. There is enough basil leaves, on them, already, to make tonight’s Pesto Pasta.

Yeah. Ignore the menu. I’ve upgraded. :)
