Apples, Apples, Apples

Part of school starting, again, is returning to the kitchen, with the kids, to learn new things..

Last week, we experimented with Apples.

On TheBoy’s 101 in 1001 days, he put “Make an Apple Pie, from Scratch.”

I’m not a big cooked apple fan. I prefer cooked apples in sauce, breads, and muffins. I, also, have not even tried to perfect pie crust. I don’t, particularly, like it. I knew the recipe I wanted him to try, would have to have crumb topping..

So, I convinced him, that this Apple Pie, on the Zaar sounded perfect.

I love oats. I knew it would be easy, for him, too, to press the crust, instead of rolling it out. We’ll roll-it-out another day. :)

I cut the apples, for him, and suggested he make more crumb topping.. my own experience felt it needed more..

I cooked this pie 10 an extra minutes and the Granny Smith Apples were still a little crisp. Overall, though, this pie is delicious!

On Friday, I was tickled that Heather posted about Apple Pancakes. This is my idea of apple perfection. The only thing I did differently, than her recipe, was I sprinkled cinnamon, over the top of the apples, when I cooked the cakes.

This was almost a kitchen disaster.. When I first read the recipe, I thought it called for Apple Cider Vinegar. In my mind, I was thinking to make the yogurt more tart.. or something.. (I love that there is yogurt in this, btw! Win Win!)

But, there I was, reading “one cup?” I guess I should read recipes with my glasses ON. 😉

As a Kitchen Miracle, I happened to pick up some Simply Apple, on Friday night! What luck.

Wonderful Apple Cider Pancake recipe.
