Navajo Tacos – Fearless Friday Win!

Navajo TacosGrowing up, in Southern California, I was surrounded by Indian Reservations. Some of our school’s exchange students, from neighboring states, spent their school year, with host families, and the summer back-at-home on Indian Reservations.

I felt fortunate to eat authentic Indian Fry Bread, but I never thought I could make it, myself.

Truth be told.. I’m afraid to make bread. It just doesn’t usually work out.. Worse, I didn’t grow up with deep-fried food. None of it.

Fried Chicken, when I was growing up, was cooked by the Colonel and was all “Original Recipe.” I was an adult before I ever knew you could fry chicken, at home. (Or that it could be crispy.)

All of these fears, have had me put-off this recipe, for Navajo Tacos, for a couple weeks now.

Tonight, I jumped right into the fryer. Pun intended.

My family loves spicy food. Most of the new recipes, I try, are deemed “boring” if they are not over-adored.

I was concerned about garlic salt being the only flavor in this meat. I used garlic powder and salt, 1:3. I, also, used Ground Sirloin. I was looking for flavor and this recipe proved Full of Win!

The Fry Bread.. is divine! I’m so overly pleased.

My family has even said we no longer need to buy the Naan Tandoori Bread, again. They’d rather have Indian Fry Bread, with hummus.

  • Chopped Tomato
  • Chopped Scallions
  • Shredded Lettuce
  • Sour Cream
  • Salsa

I think making them smaller makes them easier to eat. The first one I served.. was the size of a dinner plate. I piled everything on it, and then as I handed it off, said, “Good luck.” ::giggle::
