Its hip to be Square! Square Biscuitz!

biscuitz

I was excited to try Heather’s biscuits, after I found non-hydrogenated shortening, at Whole Foods. Last month, their store brand, of this shortening, was on sale for $2.99.

I stored it in the refrigerator, as the recipe stated to have it cold.

When I tried to measure out the shortening, however, it was hard and came out in clumps.

I, quickly grabbed a jar and measured 1 1/4 cups of cold water into it, not using the measurement lines on the jar.

I started adding the shortening, until the water reached the 1 1/2 cup mark line, on the jar.

As this jar shows, you must get down on the jars level to see the line, level, to have a more accurate measurement.

Along with being one of “those who are scared of rolling pins and feel unsure about kneading,” as Heather said, I also, ruin biscuits when I “cut” them. I know not to turn/twist as I push the biscuit cutter down.. but it still doesn’t ever work out, for me.

So, now, I cut them. In squarez. With a butter knife. I don’t have to re-squish any dough to re-cut it.. and who says that biscuits have to be round?

I like square. :)
